AN EXCITING NEW DRAMA FROM MASTERPIECE

WORLD ON FIRE ON MASTERPIECE
SUNDAY - 8PM

Masterpiece brings us a new way to pass quarantine time - a fantastic new 7-part series. World On Fire is a gripping World War II drama that follows the intertwining fates of ordinary people in five countries as they grapple with the effects of the war on their everyday lives. Can't wait seven weeks? You can binge the entire series starting the night of the broadcast premiere if you have LPB Passport, an added member benefit!

You're going to recognize some of the faces in this series; the stellar cast includes Academy Award winner Helen Hunt, Sean Bean, Lesley Manville, Jonah Hauer-King (yep, that's Laurie from Little Women), and Blake Harrison. And while we might be trying to stay in our own backyards for now, World On Fire will take you to Britain, Poland, France, Germany, and the U.S.

At the heart of the story is Harry Chase (Hauer-King) a British translator caught in a love triangle between his sweetheart at home and the young Polish woman who stole his heart in Warsaw. Season 1 is set in 1939 with Season 2 planned to take place in 1940. For an extended preview CLICK HERE!

FUN FACT: Will Sean Bean survive?

One of Bean's biggest claims to fame has been not just his on-screen roles—but also the large number of on-screen deaths he’s endured. While he doesn’t hold the record for the highest number of on-screen deaths (an honor which, according to a 2014 report by Nerdist, went to late actor John Hurt), he does rank highly. In fact, he’s started turning down roles for that very reason, he admitted in a 2019 interview with The Sun. “I’ve turned down stuff. I’ve said, ‘They know my character’s going to die because I’m in it!’ …I just had to cut that out and start surviving, otherwise it was all a bit predictable.”

HOW WILL YOU REMEMBER YOUR QUARANTINE?

These are strange days indeed.

Days when we are urged to "isolate" ourselves away from group gatherings. To not come together for spring crawfish boils and baseball games. To not go to class or in some cases, not even work.

Louisiana is doing our part...and some day we will hopefully look back on this time and shake our heads in amazement. The memories of these weeks will become far-fetched stories we will tell our children and grandchildren.

How will you remember your quarantine?

A simple way to do that and share your story with the world is by taking part in the PBS American Portrait national storytelling project.

LPB has been sharing details about this project with you for the last few months, but it's taking on a new light. Now, people across America - both young and old - are finding it a powerful point of connection during this time of separation. It's an easy way for you to share how the coronavirus is impacting your daily life.

Taking part is simple: go to the PBS AMERICAN PORTRAIT website, and follow the instructions on how to "add your story." You'll be allowed to choose from several prompts to get you started; things like "I never expected..." or "None of us are prepared for this..."

Tell your story through text, photos with captions, or video. Tell how the pandemic is changing your routine, how it's already affected your job or school, and share what your thoughts and feelings are.

The PBS American Portrait project is our chance to show what it means to be an American, living in Louisiana, during some strange days. Upload your story and share it on social media. Don't forget to tag or mention #/@LPB.

LPB POSTPONES LOUISIANA LEGENDS AWARDS GALA & AUCTION

Out of an abundance of caution, Friends of LPB have postponed the 2020 Louisiana Legends Awards Gala & Auction, says Terri Crockett, Executive Director. The annual event honors the best and brightest of Louisiana's sons and daughters who have distinguished themselves in a variety of disciplines and brought honor to the state. The decision to postpone is being made out of concern for the well-being of the guests in light of the still developing threat of the coronavirus. The gala has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 22.
