COVID-19: LOUISIANA'S RESPONSE WITH GOVERNOR EDWARDS

LPB PRESENTS COVID-19: LOUISIANA'S RESPONSE
MONDAY - 7PM

How are you and your family dealing with the coronavirus threat? There are still so many questions about this ever evolving crisis that it can be overwhelming.

LPB, working with Governor John Bel Edwards and his team of health experts and members of his administration, presents a roundtable discussion designed to answer your questions about the state's response to the coronavirus. From fears about medical access to concerns about our supply chain, the governor will cover a variety of topics and answer some questions submitted directly from citizens across the state via LPB.org.

Covid-19: Louisiana's Response airs across LPB's network and WYES & WLAE in New Orleans. LPB will also feed this special to all of Louisiana's commercial television and radio stations throughout Louisiana. Providing vital information in times of crisis is part of LPB's mission. In an effort to make certain that every citizen has access to the governor's discussion, LPB will also be streaming the broadcast.

A COUNTRY MUSIC ICON; AN UNFORGETTABLE CONCERT

GARTH BROOKS: THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS GERSHWIN PRIZE FOR POPULAR SONG
SUNDAY - 8pm

You can expect an all-star tribute to Garth Brooks from family, friends, and admirers as well as a performance by the icon himself during this two-hour long concert celebrating Brooks as a "changemaker in the history of country music."

Brooks is officially the youngest recipient of the prestigious Gershwin Prize, which honors living musical artists whose lifetime contributions in the field of popular song promote the genre as "a vehicle of entertainment, information, inspiration, and cultural understanding."

In choosing Brooks to honor, the musician was hailed for his ability to weave together the beauty of poetry, the universality of the human experience, and the inclusiveness of other musical genres making him one of the most influential performers in country music today. Brooks was noted for the songs he has written, but also for those he has chosen to record, which have often moved beyond the traditional subject matter of country music by addressing issues such as homophobia, homelessness, and racism.

Hosted by Jay Leno, the concert lineup includes Trisha Yearwood, Keith Urban, Ricky Skaggs, Chris Stapleton, and Keb' Mo'. FOR MORE ABOUT THE GERSHWIN PRIZE AND FOR A LOOK AT THE LIST OF PAST WINNERS, CLICK HERE.

THE NEW SEASON OF "CALL THE MIDWIFE" BEGINS

CALL THE MIDWIFE - SEASON 9 PREMIERE
SUNDAY - 7pm

It's now 1965 and Sister Julienne and the midwives and medics of Nonnatus House find that more than just the times are a-changin'! Season 9 of this fan favorite series finds the team dealing with cases involving cancer, dementia, fistula, and homelessness. Tonight during the debut alone, Dr. Turner and Nurse Crane must deal with an alarming outbreak of diphtheria and Fred finds an abandoned baby in a dustbin - that's a garbage can to us Yanks - and the team searches for the infant's mother.

The creators promise it's not all doom and drama this season; watch for a posse of visiting medical students and a fashion show that finds who else but Trixie wearing the shortest miniskirt ever seen in Poplar.

A SHOWCASE OF SOUTHERN COOKING

SOMEWHERE SOUTH (New Season Premiere)
FRIDAY - 9pm

We could all use a little comfort right now and what's more comforting than hand pies?

Hand pies are exactly how celebrity chef, author, and restaurateur Vivian Howard kicks off the return of her six-part series Somewhere South. It's not just a "how-to" show. Instead, Howard travels the ever changing South in search of those dishes that connect us all - but are cooked in delightfully different ways across the region thanks to cultural influences. Hand pies are a great example. Friday's episode may begin with the applejacks of Howard's youth, but the journey includes Turcos in North Carolina, pepperoni rolls in West Virginia, and the world's most popular hand pie - the empanada.

LPB POSTPONES LOUISIANA LEGENDS AWARDS GALA & AUCTION

Out of an abundance of caution, Friends of LPB have postponed the 2020 Louisiana Legends Awards Gala & Auction, says Terri Crockett, Executive Director. The annual event honors the best and brightest of Louisiana's sons and daughters who have distinguished themselves in a variety of disciplines and brought honor to the state. The decision to postpone is being made out of concern for the well-being of the guests in light of the still developing threat of the coronavirus. The gala has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 22.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN AMERICAN?

PBS and LPB are teaming up to launch one of the most ambitious storytelling initiatives ever. AMERICAN PORTRAIT aims to capture the state and the spirit of our nation in a way that only YOU can do: by telling YOUR story, and sharing it with the rest of the world. Taking part is simple: go to the PBS AMERICAN PORTRAIT website, and follow the instructions on how to "add your story." You'll be given a series of thought-provoking prompts that you can finish.

Some examples include: "I was raised to believe..." "You don't know what it's like to..." or "What keeps me up at night is..."
You can submit a video, a photograph, a drawing, or text.

LPB will be telling you more about American Portrait in the coming month. Everyone is invited to take part. Sign up and start sharing your story with America.
