 GET READY FOR SANDITON

Mark your calendar: We're heading to SANDITON for a trip to the beach without the fear of sunburn or any of that pesky sand!

Jane Austen's final (and unfinished!) novel comes to LPB this Sunday and it's full of all the drama, wit, and romance you've come to expect from Austen and Masterpiece. Austen was ill when she started the novel in early 1817. Despite her pain, she managed to complete about 11-chapters, setting her story in a seaside town and even introducing her first character of African descent.

There's plenty to love about SANDITON from its cast (yep! that's Downton Abbey's short-lived Turkish diplomat, Mr. Pamuk aka Theo James) to its beautifully composed score, but SANDITON has something else that's very special and created just for Jane Austen fans. Production designer Grant Montgomery planted over 30 Jane Austen "Easter Eggs" in the show. Some reference the author's books while others are nods to details from her own life.

Don't want to wait for the seaside romance, drama, and wit to unfold week-by-week? You don't have to...if you have LPB PASSPORT. With LPB PASSPORT, an added member benefit, you can binge the entire season of SANDITON beginning January 12 - the same day the show premieres. For more about LPB PASSPORT click here.

It's a new year and that means all new episodes of some of your favorite LPB programs!

FINDING YOUR ROOTS (Tuesday - Jan. 7 @ 7pm) returns with an all - new episode featuring actor Sterling K. Brown, comedian Sasheer Zamata and musician Jon Batiste.

Sterling-K-Brown-small.jpg#asset:30315 Sterling K. Brown says #FindingYourRoots was "a profoundly beautiful experience."

NATURE returns with a "big splash" with "The Whale Detective" (Wednesday - Jan. 8 @ 7pm). A filmmaker investigates his traumatic encounter with a 30-ton humpback whale that breached and just missed landing on him while he was kayaking.

BOUNDARY PUSHING TELEVISION

There's not much that's off-limits as far as Dave Chappelle is concerned. If you don't already know that about the comedian then you'll definitely figure it out by the time he takes the stage to accept the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor - with a lit cigarette in his hand!

Part gala performance, part documentary - the 90-minute special is exactly what you might expect from the boundary pushing stand-up comedian and actor whose trademark wit and sharp, irreverent social commentary explores race, popular culture, sex, drugs, politics, and fame.

A massive lineup of comedians, actors, and musicians gathered at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall to salute Chappelle including Jon Stewart, Morgan Freeman, John Legend, and Tiffany Haddish.

"OUTSIDE SOURCE" JOINS NEWS LINEUP

You may have noticed a change to the LPB weekday lineup at 5:00 & 5:30pm.

LPB added BBC World News - Outside Source after CNBC announced they would no longer produce the Nightly Business Report which formally aired at 5:30.
Outside Source provides an innovative take on global stories, often incorporating social media, news wires, and video feeds to provide a rounded take on the biggest stories of the day and give added context.
Says host Ros Atkins: "The way people consume news has changed so stories come in different forms, often smaller forms and I think this format is maybe closer to how they're consuming news on their phone, tablet, or PC. So it feels like a reasonable fit with the rest of their lives."
Outside Source airs Monday-Thursday on LPB-1 5-5:30pm.
BBC World New America slides to 5:30pm Monday- Friday.
