Special Broadcast Event of Seize & Secure

The broadcast premiere of Seize & Secure: The Battle for La Fière is this Thursday, June 6th at 8PM on LPB statewide, WYES in New Orleans, and on PBS stations nationwide, on what will be the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Our coverage continues at 9PM. LPB President Beth Courtney will interview special guests, Henson Moore, Chairman of the USS KIDD, and Colonel Peter Crean, VP of Education and Access for the National World War II Museum. Hear insights on the ‘Greatest Generation,’ the pivotal Battle of La Fière, the 20 year anniversary of the National World War II Museum, and more.

Seize & Secure: The Battle for La Fière is a collaborative project LPB produced with the National World War II Museum in New Orleans and the generous support of Madlyn and Paul Hillard.

More about the film:

Seize & Secure: The Battle for La Fière sheds light on a relatively unexplored, but pivotal battle to secure a critical route inland for allied forces invading France on June 6, 1944. The fight for the La Fière causeway and bridge is regarded as one of the bloodiest small arms battles in U.S. military history, fought largely by paratroopers and glidermen from the 82nd Airborne Division.

The film relies on the veterans who fought in the battle to retell the harrowing story. Mark Harmon (NCIS, The West Wing, Chicago Hope) narrates, with an original music score by Lauren Buchter, an ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) Composer to Watch. Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award-winner, C. E. Richard, wrote the script.
