Summer break is officially here and schools are closed...kind of!?!  I know many of you are wondering about the start of next school year and probably have lots of questions.  It's such a time of uncertainty, but have no fear, LPB is HERE to help you navigate the waters no matter the decisions that will be made in the upcoming months.

LPB certainly recognizes the challenges that lie ahead and we want you to know we are working very hard to provide you with resources to help make things a little easier for you!  We hope you have at least a few weeks of rest, relaxation and most especially rejuvenation to prepare yourself for a "new" school year!  Be sure to check out our new Super Summer Learning at Your Fingertips to help you and your students through the summer months.

LPB’s Girls Virtual Road Trip to the Museum!

WATCH: A sneak peek screening of the PBS show PREHISTORIC ROAD TRIP

WHAT YOU’LL NEED: Access to the internet along with a computer, laptop, or phone

School may be out for the summer, but the learning doesn't have to end. The upcoming PBS program Prehistoric Road Trip will get kids excited about natural science and so will LPB’s Girls Virtual Road Trip to the Museum! It's a fun-filled online/interactive event and preview screening in partnership with the LSU College of Science, Geaux Science Explorations (which is funded by the Halliburton EAB Foundation) and the East Baton Rouge Parish Library.

This online event won’t sacrifice fun for safety - we can do both! The event begins with a sneak peek of LPB’s upcoming 3-part series Prehistoric Road Trip, premiering June 17. Emily Graslie, the Chief Curiosity Correspondent at the Field Museum and host of the YouTube series The Brain Scoop. As the host, writer, and executive producer of the show, Graslie takes attendees on an epic road trip through America’s fossil country. This preview will have girls excited about watching the series, and give them a better understanding of our planet’s past and a look at what new discoveries might mean for its future.

Next, attendees will get a chance to hear from women scientists representing several fields; Geologists, Ornithologist, Mammalogist, and Ichthyologist. GIRL POWER in the sciences is well represented by scientists from Louisiana State University!

Each attendee will receive their own Girls Virtual Road Trip to the Museum! science kit that’s full of activities you can complete at home - then share your “discoveries” online with us! Register NOW!

Field Trip Fridays with LPB & National Parks

Staying home doesn’t mean that you can’t go anywhere!  Enjoy “Field Trip Fridays” on LPB with a special encore airing of NATIONAL PARKS: AMERICA’S BEST IDEA. You and your family will be transported to some of nature's most spectacular locales – from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, and the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska.

Filmed over the course of more than six years, NATIONAL PARKS: AMERICA’S BEST IDEA was produced Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan and written by Dayton Duncan. 

As with all of Ken Burns’ films, there are extensive educational resources online for educators. You’ll learn the history and meet the people who worked to make the parks happen. This stunning six-episode series is a visual travel brochure that will inspire you for your next trip!

LDMA: Virtual Summer Road Trip

We’re taking a virtual summer road trip to some of our favorite sites around Louisiana! While it might not be possible to take a “normal” summer vacation this year, the LDMA is taking you on a virtual road trip around the state to sites we consider “Louisiana Treasures.”  From museums and churches to gardens and historic homes, you’ll find places that highlight Louisiana’s unique history and culture.

LPB, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education, Great Minds, Illustrative Math and SchoolKit, will broadcast on LPB's main channel critical math lessons in Grades K-Alegbra I.

K-2rd Grade:  Tuesday & Thursdays from 12PM-1PM
3rd-5th Grade:  Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 12PM-1PM
6th Grade-Algebra I: Monday-Friday from 1:30 PM-3:00 PM
