We’ve gathered fun, exploratory resources for you to use as you plan summer fun. The Great American Read

The Great American Read is an eight-part series that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the lens of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey). It investigates how and why writers create their fictional worlds, how we as readers are affected by these stories, and what these 100 different books have to say about our diverse nation and our shared human experience

U.S. Army’s March2Success Website Offers Virtual Learning Tools

March2Success continues to expand its offering of tools for educators and to encourage students through game-based learning.  Partnering with premier app developers, we're able to add these free apps that range over several March2Success initiatives. All of these apps are free and developed by the U.S. Army.

  • STAR Elements: STAR Elements is designed to help teachers and students visualize the foundations of physical science and Chemistry.  This app features visual learning tools that allow students to explore the periodic table, elements and atomic structure through interactive models, games and challenges.  This app offers this innovative technology for free to high school and college teachers and students. https://www.usarmystars.com/ap...

Sesame Street In Communities and Sesame Strong!

Sesame Strong is a scope and sequence designed to support your family engagement efforts! It includes eight bundles full of resources you can use to connect with, celebrate, and support parents and caregivers. Use these resources to host mini-sessions with parents, or simply infuse key messages and big ideas into your everyday interactions with parents.

Each bundle includes:

  • A Key Caregiver Strategy.
  • Supporting resources for caregivers: a parent reading, two video clips, a digital storybook, and a hands-on activity to try.
  • Facilitation cues and activity ideas for hosting parent sessions in your setting.

 Discovery Education Featured Summer Learning Content

The first week of June we’ll be adding a new collection of ready-to-use activities specifically designed to help teachers this summer. These activities:

  • Span grades K-8 and are based on ELA and Math standards that address learning recovery needs.
  • Incorporate science or social studies content that engages students and supports background knowledge development.
  • Will include 25 new Social-Emotional Learning activities based on our most popular content.

LDMA - We’re taking a virtual summer road trip to some of our favorite sites around Louisiana!

With the summer vacation season underway, the LDMA is taking you on a virtual road trip around the state to sites we consider “Louisiana Treasures.”  From museums and churches to gardens and historic homes, you’ll find places that highlight Louisiana’s unique history and culture.

Louisiana Public Square: RENEWABLE & REALITY : Wednesday, June 23 at 7:00pm ENCORE --  President Joe Biden has aggressive plans to transform the nation’s heavily fossil-fuel powered economy into a clean-burning one by 2035. Governor John Bel Edwards is encouraging members of the state’s new Climate Initiatives Task Force to explore wind power in the Gulf. While oil and gas consumption has declined recently, domestic oil production still remains essential to the economy of Louisiana. How realistic are plans to rapidly move towards a nationwide reliance on wind and solar energy? How is Louisiana’s energy industry already addressing climate change? And what will a pause in offshore leases and other federal measures mean for jobs and the economy in Louisiana?
