LPB Call for Nominations for Louisiana Young Heroes

Louisiana Public Broadcasting announces the 2025 Louisiana Young Heroes program and the statewide call for nominations of students to be recognized as Louisiana Young Heroes. Parents, principals, teachers, guidance counselors, family members, and friends who know of high school students deserving of recognition for their tenacity, good work and commendable deeds, are encouraged to nominate them!

Nominees must be Louisiana students in grades 9-12, enrolled in an academic institution or homeschool program, and cannot be older than 18 years of age. Nominations and supporting materials should be submitted through the online form at lpb.org/heroes. The deadline for entries is Sunday, March 2, 2025. (Previous Young Heroes are not eligible.)

Step 5: Be a Scientist! | Junior Scientist Maker Program (K-5) Dr. Jenna Jambeck is studying plastic pollution using an app called Marine Debris Tracker and she needs your help! You can help by tracking the litter you find in your community. This data can help scientists understand the most common litter and where it is found. According to the resource, The Junior Scientist Maker Program is a five-part, standards-aligned program whereby students watch a short animation and participate in hands-on, inquiry-based science activities.

Weathered (6-12) Learn the science behind extreme weather events and rapid climate change and explore innovative solutions to these challenges! From how America’s hottest city is innovating to survive to surprising truths behind planting trees, this expanded collection and accompanying support materials use experts, real-time data, models, and educational animations to illustrate the ways Earth’s systems are transforming and how we can create a sustainable future.

Carmen's Eco-Farm Adventure (6-12) This interactive game analyzes climate and weather conditions to make decisions based on real-life climate outcomes. Players use their knowledge of climate change to solve problems related to irrigation, fertilization, and more—all the while learning about environmentally-friendly agriculture practices.

Renegades (6-12) This collection showcases the lives and cultural contributions of little-known historical figures with disabilities.


Discovery  Education : DE Staff Picks!

The City of U.S. Virtual Field Trip - This action-packed tour will feature remarkable special guests and give viewers an inside look at six landmark locations: the White House, the U.S. Capitol Building, the Supreme Court, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

I Do Solemnly Swear: The U.S. Presidential Inauguration Virtual Field Trip - This behind-the-scenes Virtual Field Trip features Inauguration Day questions from real students and answers from real experts.
