 LPB's Final Event of our Summer of Adventure!

LPB invites families to join us for the final event of our Summer of Adventure! Before the kids head back to school, join us for an epic adventure with Ready Jet Go on Saturday, August 5th at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum in downtown Baton Rouge at 10am! Don’t miss your opportunity to meet Jet, enjoy a movie and explore the museum!

Everyone attending must have a ticket. Children 12 months old and younger are not required to have a ticket.

To truly appreciate Book Lover's Day you must read a book! Check out the resources for parents on Reading Rockets, a national multimedia literacy initiative offering information and resources on how young kids learn to read, why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help. When it comes to deciding what books to share with the young readers in your life, there is so much to choose from! 2017 Solar Eclipse will be here August 21st!

The 2017 Solar Eclipse will be here August 21st! This will be the first total solar eclipse visible in the continental United States in 38 years. The last total solar eclipse visible to the US was in 1979. The last time a solar eclipse went all the way across the continental US was 1918! States in the Path of Totality are: Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. Even though Louisiana is not in the path of totality, there are tips and resources available to make the eclipse a meaningful learning experience. Here is an informational flyer for families. Learn how to make your own eclipse projector with simple household items. Remember you should NEVER look directly at the sun without proper protective eye gear. Check out some of these resources from PBS LearningMedia! On Monday, August 21st at 8 PM, watch NOVA: Eclipse Over America on LPB at 8 PM! Join scientists and citizens alike as they observe the first total solar eclipse to traverse the US mainland in more than a generation. Discover the storied history of eclipse science and follow current, cutting-edge research into the solar corona.

Ready Jet Go: Back to Bortron 7 - When Jet's parents need to return to their home planet, Sean and Sydney join the Propulsion family for on an epic adventure to Bortron 7. Tune in 8/14 at 6 and 11 AM on LPB, and for the repeat at 5:30 PM on LPBKIDS.

Curious George 3: Back to the Jungle - When Curious George is asked to take part in a very important space mission, a little monkeying around forces him to crash-land in Africa. Ireland's Wild Coast - Hanging like an emerald jewel off the western edge of Europe, Ireland has always been a place apart. Journey along one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world featuring the wildlife and wild places that make it so special. Wildlife cameraman Colin Stafford-Johnson takes viewers on an authored odyssey along Ireland's rugged Atlantic coast -- the place he chooses to make his home after 30 years spent shooting some of the world's most celebrated wildlife films. The Great British Baking Show
 - Season 4 - Final two episodes on Friday, August 4, 8-10PM (encore Friday, August 11, 12-2PM). At 8PM, join the four remaining bakers in the semi-final as they bash and fold pastry to achieve perfect lamination. Which three will go to the final? Then at 9PM, it’s the final! Twelve bakers started, now, just three remain, but only one can be crowned winner. Judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood create new challenges to test their skill and creativity, and hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are with them every step of the way. The finalists wrestle with meringues, undertake a British classic with only one recipe instruction and no measurements, and tackle one of the most complex challenges ever seen on the series.

Africa's Great Civilizations
 - Beginning with Africa’s ancient history as the cradle of mankind, this documentary series with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. brings to life the epic stories of both little-known and celebrated African kingdoms and cultures.Tune in for a maraton event 8/5 from 9 AM-7:30 PM on LPB.

Play the Ukulele with the Atomic Sharks
 - Learn to play the uke in no time flat with Kris Hensler and Kenny Taylor, who help first-timers get started fast. By the end of the show, the duo will have viewers strumming “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and Jimmy Buffett’s “Changes in Latitude.” Tune in 8/6 at 2:30 PM on LPB.

Attakapas: The Cajun Story
 - This dynamic immersive, multi-media stage show from Louisiana singer-song-writer, poet, cultural activist, and environmentalist Zachary Richard is now a tour-de-force television special from LPB. The production features Richard’s original songs, recorded live at Baton Rouge’s Manship Theatre in February of 2017. The story chronicles the plight of the Acadian people during their expulsion by the British from Nova Scotia, their epic journey, and eventual arrival in the primordial Louisiana swamps and prairies, through song and storytelling. Tune in 8/6 at 7 PM on LPB.

First Cousins: Cajun & Creole Music in South Louisiana
 - Explore the rich musical heritage of the region’s French-speaking people who have shared tunes, borrowed instruments, and danced in each other’s arms for generations. In private moments and in packed dance halls, some of the region’s most beloved musicians reveal the passion they share for making music and carrying on family traditions. With roots reaching all the way back to Africa, Europe, and French Canada over the past three centuries, the solid trunk of Louisiana’s Creole and Cajun music has flourished into a family tree with intertwined branches. Tune in 8/15 at 7 PM on LPB.

Great Performances: Broadway Musicals-A Jewish Legacy
 - Why has the Broadway musical proven to be such fertile territory for Jewish artists of all kinds? From Broadway’s golden age, names like Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, the Gershwins, Arthur Laurents, Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim immediately come to mind. More recently, Broadway babies such as Stephen Schwartz, Marc Shaiman and Andrew Lippa represent a sampling of the Jewish talents who continue to leave their mark on musical theater. The Farthest-Voyager in Space
 - Learn how NASA’s epic Voyager missions, launched in 1977, revolutionized our understanding of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and their dazzling moons and rings. DCI Banks: To Burn in Every Drop of Blood

West to West: Tales From California's Channel Islands
 - Introduced by Joe Walsh of the legendary band The Eagles, and told from the view point of the native people who’ve inhabited and experienced the Channel Islands, the three-part documentary series explores the history, geography, archaeology and biology of the eight islands off the California coast. Through interviews with a range of experts – including academics, archeologists, historians and natives, the series provides an engaging portrait of each of the islands intimate personal history.
