Rediscovery

1. Were there any Utopian communities in your state? What was its orientation: religious, secular? What were their ideas/goals? What was the role of children, women and men in the communuity? Are there any descendants still around? Or any of their buildings? How did the community interact with their neighbors outside? Why don't we know more about these kinds of communities? What thinks worked and/or didn't work in these communities?

2. From Plato to the Age of Enlightenment, "Utopia" was only a philosophical and literary concept. How did classic Western thought look at Utopian themes? How did that change after the European discovery of the New World?

3. What other cultures have Utopian traditions? Native American, Middle East, African, Eastern cultures?
