HOSPITAL PLANNING: Surviving the StormSurviving the Storm

The documentary, Surviving the Storm shows why Ochsner was able to keep operating. You will see what lessons Ochsner had learned from other hospitals impaired by Mother Nature’s wrath. The program focuses on the lessons other hospitals can learn from Ochsner and Hurricane Katrina, the worst disaster in recent American History. John Goodman hosts.

DISASTER PLANNING: Situation: Disaster! (Situación: ¡Desastre!)
Situation: Disaster! As a result of the widespread devastation the Gulf Coast experienced from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) realized that the general public needs readily accessible information about how to prepare for and cope with natural disasters.

To that end, LPB requested and received a Fire Prevention and Safety grant from the Department of Homeland Security to develop and produce a two part video series hosted by noted actor Eric Estrada, entitled "Situation: Disaster," to provide emergency preparedness information about a wide variety of natural disasters, from hurricanes and tornados, to severe thunderstorms and winter storms, to wild fires and floods.

In an effort to reach the widest audience possible with practical tips on what to do before a natural disaster occurs and how to cope immediately afterwards, "Situation: Disaster" was produced in both English and Spanish, and the DVD is available.

Lesson Plans

In the Fall of 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita churned ashore and wreaked havoc upon the already endangered coastline of Louisiana. Washing Away: Losing Louisiana tells the stories of six Louisianans and how the storms affected the coastline, their land and their livelihoods. These people share their stories and their knowledge of the larger impacts of coastal land loss on the environment, wildlife, the economy, industry, culture and communities.
