Living with Cancer
This is the story of three cancer patients: David Tarrow,
Kellye Holmes and Patricia Carter. They have nothing in common except
they are all married with children and they all have cancer.
A new documentary by Louisiana Public Broadcasting, Living
with Cancer, looks at how these patients lived and, in one case,
died with cancer.
More than 15 million new cases of cancer have been diagnosed
in the United States since 1990. The American Cancer Society estimates
that 21,700 people in Louisiana will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
Thats five out of every 1,000 Louisiana residents. Breast cancer
and lung cancer are the most common forms in the state.
This
program is not only about the effects of cancer, its also about
three remarkable people with wonderful friends and families. All of
the people have had some sad and disappointing experiences. But, for
every sad moment, I think there are two or three inspirational experiences.
You cant help but be touched by the courage of each of the patients
and the support of the people around them. Doctors also share the emotions
they endure while experiencing the ups and downs of positive and negative
test results."Dorothy Kendrick, Living
with Cancer Producer
Our
hope is that an inside glimpse at a cancer patients trials and
tribulations will help you to support family and friends as your lives
are woven together. We also hope that you will help the occasional stranger
with cancer whose path you cross. A cancer patients perspective
on lifes priorities can be enriching for all of us. We hope that
the joys and sadness shared by these brave people will enrich everyone
who sees the program."Dr. Gerald Miletello, Oncologist
Living
