This special performance of Lake Charles composer Keith Gates’ "An American Requiem" was recorded March 2 at the Rosa Hart Theatre of the Lake Charles Civic Center. Gates wrote "An American Requiem" in memory of the victims of the September 11th attacks. The performance included members of the McNeese State University Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Zane Douglass and the McNeese Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Darryl Jones. Members of the Voices of London choir were chosen to sing the solo roles to emphasize the international aspect of the tragedy of September 11th. Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach read the introduction to the requiem, which recounts the last phone call made by a passenger on Flight 93 before he and others wrested control of the plane from the hijackers.
