THREE HONORED AT FRIENDS OF LPB ANNUAL MEETING

Friends of LPB honored two individuals and one company for their support of public broadcasting

THREE HONORED AT FRIENDS OF LPB ANNUAL MEETING Governor John Bel Edwards, First Lady Donna Edwards with LPB CEO Beth Courtney. The First Lady received LPB's President's Award.
Louisiana Public Broadcasting and Friends of LPB honored two individuals and one company for their support of public broadcasting on Tuesday, September 19 at the Friends of LPB Annual Meeting at LPB’s studios.
Louisiana’s First Lady Donna Edwards was given the President’s Award by LPB President/CEO Beth Courtney. After the Floods of 2016 devastated dozens of schools and child care facilities, Mrs. Edwards joined forces with LPB to help raise money and awareness to aid schools, teachers, students and families affected by the disaster. With funds and resources raised, LPB and Mrs. Edwards were able to bring supplies, technology and training directly to some of the hardest hit schools. As a former music teacher, Mrs. Edwards has also been able to turn her passion into support for arts education in Louisiana. Her Louisiana First Foundation helps to ensure students have the needed resources to pursue their passion for the arts.

Jane Honeycutt received the Friends of LPB Volunteer of the Year Award for her continued time and dedication to many projects to support LPB. Also recognized was outgoing Board Member Harrison Smith for his six years of service to Friends of LPB. Immediate Past Chairperson Dan Hare of Lafayette was also recognized.

Camellia Brand Beans received the Underwriters Award for their enthusiastic support of LPB’s latest documentary Deeply Rooted: John Coykendall’s Journey to Save Our Seeds and Stories.
Also at the meeting, Bill Blackwood of Baton Rouge was elected as the new Chairperson for the Friends of LPB Board. Other officers include Vice Chair Rae Vasquez of Baton Rouge, Treasurer Ann Wilkinson of Port Allen, and Secretary Peggy Murphy of Shreveport.

Those in attendance were able to enjoy refreshments and a preview LPB’s upcoming fall programming.
Friends of LPB’s mission is to raise funds to provide programming that is intelligent, informative, educational and entertaining and to connect the state by creating content that showcases Louisiana’s unique history, people, places and events.
