11/05 - The High Cost of Health Care

11/05 - The High Cost of Health Care

Why does it cost so much for healthcare in Louisiana and why are there so many people who don't have health insurance?

Those are two of the subjects addressed when Louisiana Public Broadcasting airs the November edition of its award-winning Louisiana Public Square on Wednesday, November 16 at 7PM. It will repeat on Sunday, November 20 at 4PM on LPB.

This month's discussion will feature excerpts from the Day of Deliberation held on Saturday, October 29 at LPB and Southeastern Louisiana University. More than 80 people participated in the discussions that also included the high HIV/AIDS rate in the state. Panelists included Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals head Dr. Fred Cerise, Woman's Hospital of Baton Rouge CEO Teri Fontenot, State Senator Jay Dardenne of Baton Rouge; and Roberta Madden, director of women's health and public policy for the YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge.

LPB President/CEO Beth Courtney and LSU Media Law Professor Craig Freeman are your hosts.

Louisiana Public Square is simulcast on KRVS-FM in Lafayette and will air on WRKF in Baton Rouge on Sunday, November 20 at 3PM.

For more information, contact Bob Neese or Al Godoy at 1-800-272-8161 or (225) 767-5660 in the Baton Rouge area.

     11/17 - Louisiana: Sportsman’s Paradise or Problem?

Is Louisiana a Sportsman’s Paradise or Problem?
For decades Louisiana has proclaimed itself as the “Sportsman’s Paradise.” But for today’s hunters, changes to Louisiana’s landscape have caused a decline in the quality of the state’s deer habitat and smaller game. For coastal fishermen, private property rights often unduly restrict access to waters that are considered public in any other state.

Louisiana Public Square explores some of the challenges that the state’s hunters and anglers face on “Louisiana: Sportsman’s Paradise or Problem?” Wednesday, November 22 at 7p.m. on LPB and in New Orleans on WLAE. (Recording Tuesday, November 21)
