Ernest R. "Roger" Tully Alexandria Chief of Police
Ernest R. "Roger" Tully has been serving as the Chief of the Alexandria Police Department since August 14, 2010. After 29 years of service with the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), he retired as a Captain. Chief Tully began his law enforcement career on May 4, 1981 and worked in progressively responsible positions at BRPD. Tully’s last assignment was as Uniform Patrol Commander over 400 plus officers. Prior to that, Tully served as Chief of Staff for retiring Baton Rouge Police Department Chief Jeff LeDuff. Tully deployed a number of crime fighting efforts under Chief LeDuff.
Among Chief Tully’s most notable accomplishments was the coordination of the Baton Rouge Police Department’s initial Accreditation with CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies). In his time at the BRPD, Tully converted the department from a paper-driven to a paperless reporting system using the same system that the Alexandria Police Department uses today.
Chief Tully is a Theology Graduate of the Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College in San Dimas, California.
What standards should be used for college admissions?
This fall, LSU instituted a “holistic admissions” process for incoming students which relies more on essays and recommendations than on College Board test scores and grade point averages. Proponents of the move say it’s a better way to identify strong students while opening up opportunities for families not financially able to afford prep classes for standardized exams. Opponents say the move will increase student attrition and could endanger LSU’s flagship status. Examine the new standards from several different perspectives.
Louisiana Public Square looks for answers to these questions and more on “An Eye on Admissions” Wednesday, November 21 at 7pm on LPB and in New Orleans on WLAE.
Louisiana Public Square can also be heard on public radio stations WRKF in Baton Rouge; Red River Radio in Shreveport and Alexandria; and WWNO in New Orleans. Check their station websites for schedule.
