Michael Jackson
State Representative (D), Louisiana

Michael Jackson is an elected official to the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 61, to which he was re-elected a second term without opposition. Rep. Jackson is a member of the following committees within the House: Insurance (Vice Chairman), Appropriations, and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget.

Rep. Jackson is managing partner of Jackson-Bell Law Firm, founded in 2000, and serves as general counsel for a number of health care providers.

Michael Jackson received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Southern University in Political Science in 1988 and his Juris Doctorate degree from Southern University Law Center in 1991. In June 2004, Representative Jackson participated in a six- (6) week program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Representative Jackson has also served his country in the Louisiana National Guard from 1984-1988.

Rep. Jackson was born September 22, 1965 to Rev. and Mrs. Morris Jackson and is married to the former Stephanie Gissendanner, with whom he has two daughters: Nia and Camyrn.

For decades Louisiana has proclaimed itself as the “Sportsman’s Paradise.” But for today’s hunters, changes to Louisiana’s landscape have caused a decline in the quality of the state’s deer habitat and smaller game. For coastal fishermen, private property rights often unduly restrict access to waters that are considered public in any other state.
