Panelist Bio

Jan Elkins
Community Projects Director for KTBS in Shreveport

Jan Elkins is the Community Projects Director for KTBS in Shreveport. She has been at KTBS for over 25 years serving in a number of different capacities including stints as a General Assignment and Health Reporter. She was News Director for the station from 1999-2005.

As a reporter Jan received many awards, including several 1st place awards from the Louisiana Associated Press. She also received The Gabrielle Award for her reports on Medical Missions to the Ukraine. The Gabrielle Award is a national award given to those who uplift the human spirit.

Jan has served on many boards, including the NW LA Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Mid-South Division Board for the American Cancer Society, and the YWCA of Northwest Louisiana. Raising millions of dollars for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through the KTBS 3 St. Jude Dream Home is something Jan is proud of. KTBS 3 was the first station to help build a Dream Home, now there are more than 100 around the country.

KTBS is locally owned, so the Wray family believes it is important to give back to the community. Jan enjoys working together with local organizations to do just that, and to help make the community a better place.

02/18 - Drawing the Line: Sexual Harassment in Louisiana

How widespread is the problem in our state?
Governor John Bel Edward’s deputy chief of staff, Johnny Anderson, resigned in November due to allegations of sexual harassment. A month earlier, celebrity chef John Besh stepped down from his restaurant management group after sexual harassment accusations. Charges of sexual misconduct in the workplace against celebrities and government officials made state and national headlines during the last several months of 2017.

How widespread is the problem in our state? Where is the distinction drawn between boorish acts and abusive behavior? Is every circumstance unique or should all offenders be dealt with in the same manner? Louisiana Public Square looks for answers to these questions and more on “Drawing the Line: Sexual Harassment in Louisiana” Wednesday, February 28 at 7 p.m. on LPB and in New Orleans on WLAE. (Recording Tuesday, February 27)

Panelists:
- Sen. Sharon Hewitt, R-Slidell; Senate Select Committee on Women and Children
- Craig Broome; Louisiana Society of Human Resource
- Janice Lansing, Chairperson of Governor Edwards’ Sexual Harassment & Discrimination Policy Task Force
- Allison A. Jones; attorney; Downer, Jones & Wilhite in Shreveport

Robyn Merrick will host.
