This Week on LPB - December 4-10, 2017


LPB LPB has lots of great music in store for you tonight! At 7PM on Fats Domino: Walkin' Back to New Orleans, see the late Louisiana native in his final concert, following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. At 8:30 guitarist Joe Bonamassa celebrates the music of blues legends Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Find out how to get tickets to see Joe in concert in New Orleans or Shreveport. Then at 10, hear Johnny Mathis perform many of his greatest hits.

Spend Tuesday night with Zachary Richard. At 7PM, Zachary will be in LPB's studios for An Evening at the Governor's Mansion: A Christmas Celebration. Zachary performs with the Myrtle Place French Immersion Children's Choir at the Louisiana Governor's Mansion. Next at 8:30, see Attakapas: The Cajun Story, where, through songs, stories, and archival photos, Zachary tells us how the Cajuns ended up in Louisiana. At 10, LPB is right on track with The Best of Trains Around North America. Historic and scenic tourist railroads are showcased. Be sure to tune in to find out how you can take a real train trip!

Wednesday is New Orleans night on LPB. At 7PM see Leah Chase, The Queen of Creole Cuisine. Hear how a young girl from Madisonville became one of the top chefs in the country. At 8:30, John Goodman narrates New Orleans: The First 300 Years. Hear great stories from the Crescent City's past. At 10:30, see an encore of Fats Domino: Walkin' Back to New Orleans.

Thursday at 7PM, Memory Rescue with Daniel Amen, M.D. will give you tips for remembering the things that are important to you. At 8:30, The Carpenters Close to You & Christmas Memories first chronicles the duo's rise to fame and features some of their greatest hits. Then hear some of your favorite Christmas songs from Karen and Richard Carpenter. At 10:30, catch Joe Bonamassa: Muddy Wolf at Red Rocks.

See what has been happening within our state Friday night at 7 on Louisiana: The State We're In, followed by Robert Costa and Washington Week. At 8PM on Andrea Bocelli: Landmarks live in Concert - A Great Performances Special, Bocelli is joined by world renowned conductor Zubin Mehta, sopranos Carly Paoli and Maria Aleida, baritone Gianfranco Montresor, and violinist David Garrett. Host Chad Smith takes an up-close and personal tour of Bocelli’s villa in Tuscany as well as the city of Florence. On 70s Soul Superstars at 9:30PM, Patti LaBelle hosts these performances by some of the legends of that decade.

Saturday at 7PM, Country superstar Alan Jackson performs traditional hymns and gospel favorites in Alan Jackson: Precious Memories. At 8:30, see an encore of Attakapas: The Cajun Story. At 10PM, celebrate five decades of music from Cat Stevens, from "Peace Train" to "Morning Has Broken" on A Cat's Attic: Yusuf / Cat Stevens.

Sunday night, LPB gives you a chance to catch programs you may have missed - or those you want to see again! At 6PM, see Andrea Bocelli: Landmarks live in Concert - A Great Performances Special. Starting at 7:30, enjoy some great Louisiana programs: An Evening at the Governor's Mansion: A Christmas Celebration, New Orleans: The First 300 Years, and The Vietnam War: Louisiana Stories.


LPB LPB and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge are looking for the 2018 Louisiana Young Heroes. A Young Hero can be defined in many ways, but to those who know them they are exceptional students who devote their time, talents, and energy to make a difference. Now in its 23rd year, the Louisiana Young Heroes Awards annually honor students in grades 7-12 who excel in the classroom, serve their local communities, and sometimes demonstrate great personal courage in overcoming adversity.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Louisiana Young Heroes. Students must be enrolled in a Louisiana school (public, private or parochial) or home-schooled, and cannot be older than 19 years of age. Nomination forms can be downloaded and filled out or submitted through the online form at Letters of recognition, newspaper articles, and other supporting materials should be sent to support the nomination. Previous winners are not eligible. The deadline for entries is January 31, 2018. Winners will be announced on LPB’s weekly news and public affairs program Louisiana the State We’re In and on February 23, 2018 at 7PM. Louisiana Young Heroes Day will be Monday, April 16, 2018. The Young Heroes will be treated to a day full of activities in Baton Rouge, including a number of surprises.

LPB See Martin and Chris Kratt live on stage here in Louisiana! Join the Kratt Brothers for Wild Kratts Live at Shreveport Municipal Memorial Auditorium on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 6:30PM. A $200 contribution gets you an Orchestra Ticket and Meet & Greet Pass for the performance at Shreveport Municipal Auditorium on Friday, May 18 or at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on Saturday, May 19. A $150 contribution secures an Orchestra Ticket for either performance.
