This Week on LPB - December 11-17, 2018


LPB (Friday night, LPB will put you in the holiday spirit with the annual tradition of Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.)

Get twice the appraisals tonight! At 7PM, join the Antiques Roadshow experts in Anaheim, where a Butch Cassidy "wanted" circular is one of the prized finds. Then at 8 from Richmond, see a 1982 UNC championship basketball signed by teammates Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Sam Perkins, and others. On Fake or Fortune? at 9, experts perform scientific tests on a large, old painting found in a church. Then on The Coroner, Jane comes face-to-face with a notorious killer.

On Tuesday night, LPB will give you double the Roots! On Finding Your Roots at 7PM, Questlove, Dr. Phil, and Charlayne Hunter-Gault hear tales of bondage in their family histories. At 8, author Ta-Nehisi Coates, filmmaker Ava DuVernay, and author/activist Janet Mock trace their heritage. At 9 on part one of Putin's Revenge, FRONTLINE investigates Vladimir Putin's grievances with the U.S. and his efforts to exact revenge leading up to the 2016 presidential election. Stay tuned at 10 for parts one and two of Undertone on Silent Witness.

Delve into the hearts, minds, and souls of elephants on Nature, Wednesday at 7PM. Next on NOVA, join archaeologists who reveal traces of WWI's most devastating ultra-secret tunneling operation. At 9, explore the basic principles of flight to see how animals become airborne on Supernature - Wild Flyers.

Thursday at 7PM, Father Brown finds himself embroiled with MI5 when he looks into the death of an art restorer. At 8, Doc Martin's mother returns to Portwenn - and she has some interesting news. On Dickensian at 9PM, Inspector Bucket has Edward Barbary in his sight. That's followed by Dr. Blake Mysteries. A local businessman unveils his plans for a theme park, but is soon after discovered drowned.

LPB's weekly newsmagazine, Louisiana: The State We're In is the official start to the weekend, Fridays at 7PM, followed by Washington Week. On Art Rocks! at 8:30, meet Lafayette artist Francis X. Pavy, whose work stems from the southern storytelling tradition and involves folk-life and folklore of the local people. (Mr. Pavy graciously donated a piece of his art for LPB's Christmas card this year.) At 9PM, celebrate Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, featuring world-renowned tenor Rolando Villazon. At 10, join Chef Lidia Bastianich as she celebrates homegrown heroes-veterans who now cultivate the land on Lidia Celebrates America.

Saturday at 7PM, all of your favorite British comedies return! At 9, Sarah struggles with personal demons, and is seen doing a spiritual cleansing in a creek on A Place to Call Home. At 10 on The Tunnel: Sabotage, Karl threatens MI5, and Artem launches his lethal attack.

Sunday night, enjoy holiday spirit mixed with drama on LPB. At 6, see an encore of Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. At 7, see part one of the Last Tango in Halifax Holiday Special. Learn why Caroline moves the family to a farmhouse. LPB wants to get you ready for Season 2 of Victoria, so we'll start airing Season 1 at 8PM to refresh your memory. On part one, as a new queen, the young Victoria struggles to take charge amid plots to manipulate her. At 10, see part one of Death Comes to Pemberly on Masterpiece. Six years after "Pride and Prejudice," Elizabeth and Darcy plan a ball with fatal consequences. Next, see part one of The Escape Artist on Masterpiece.


LPB Join Friends of LPB as we celebrate Season 2 of Victoria with a Victorian Tea on Sunday, January 7 at LPB's studios. Spend the afternoon sipping tea paired with delicious pastries. Victoria Season 2 on Masterpiece premieres on the six-station LPB network on Sunday, January 14 at 8PM.


LPB LPB and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge are looking for the 2018 Louisiana Young Heroes. A Young Hero can be defined in many ways, but to those who know them they are exceptional students who devote their time, talents, and energy to make a difference. Now in its 23rd year, the Louisiana Young Heroes Awards annually honor students in grades 7-12 who excel in the classroom, serve their local communities, and often demonstrate great personal courage in overcoming adversity.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Louisiana Young Heroes. Students must be enrolled in a Louisiana school (public, private or parochial) or home-schooled, and cannot be older than 19 years of age. Nomination forms can be downloaded and filled out or submitted through the online form at Letters of recognition, newspaper articles, and other supporting materials should be sent to support the nomination. Previous winners are not eligible. The deadline for entries is January 31, 2018. Winners will be announced on LPB’s weekly news and public affairs program Louisiana the State We’re In and on February 23, 2018 at 7PM. Louisiana Young Heroes Day will be Monday, April 16, 2018. The Young Heroes will be treated to a day full of activities in Baton Rouge, including a number of surprises.
