Friends of LPB hosted the second annual Rock Pop and Doo Wop concert Saturday, June 28. The concert, held at the Baton Rouge River Center, featured BJ Thomas, Gene “Duke of Earl” Chandler, Shirley Alston Reeves of the Shirelles, Jay Siegel of the Tokens, Carl Gardner’s Coasters and Barbara Harris and The Toys.
Platinum level tickets included an invitation to the Rock Pop Drive-In at the Old State Capitol. Invited guests were joined by all of the performers as well as Elvis. The performers visited, signed autographs, took pictures and even sang with the enthusiastic crowd. Elvis was brought back by Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell, a seasoned impersonater, who entertained guests with his elaborate performance complete with backup performers and a white jumpsuit. Attendees were also treated to fifties sytle fare by Chef KD and pop rock snowballs from Cool Tiger Ice.
