Procedures:
1. Discuss
the usefulness of using Venn diagrams to compare and contrast information, and
discuss with the class how to construct and read one.
2. As
a class, decide what information about planets they would like to compare and
contrast in a Venn diagram.
3. Prepare
a data collection sheet for gathering facts that students have decided to
compare and
contrast.
(This can be done as a class or by the teacher.)
4. Use the Internet, books about planets, encyclopedias, and/or textbooks to locate the facts that will be compared and contrasted.

5. Work
with another group (having a different planet) to compare and contrast facts
gathered from references and organize information into appropriate categories
on data collection sheet.
6. The
students will use the Venn diagram template to complete the assignment or
prepare their own Venn diagram using the Draw program on their computer (if
available).
7. The
students will share their Venn diagrams with the class.
