Lesson
Objectives:
Students will
use the Internet and other reference sources to gather information on a space
topic.
Students will
create a trading card displaying the information learned.
Students will
import pictures from libraries and the Internet.
Technology

Assessment: The rubric
to assess the Trading Cards
Procedures:
1. Students
may work individually or with a partner to create a trading card. Students
will use AskJeeves at http://www.askjeeves.com
or a NASA website at http://www.nasa.gov
to find the information needed.
2. The
students will use a trading card template to plan their cards.
3. The
students will then create a trading card using the template provided or by
making their own trading card following teacher directions.
Possible
themes for trading cards include:
A. Space Missions (Gemini, Mercury, Apollo,
Shuttle, etc.)
B. Planets
C. Satellites
D. Constellations
E. Astronauts
F. Spacecraft
G. Galaxies
H. Deep Space Objects
Extensions: Several ways students can use the printed
trading cards include:
1. Placing them in chronological order by
event
2. Placing them in numerical order based
on data such as size, order from sun, etc.
3. Classifying them by some common
characteristic
4. Using the information on two or three
cards to create Venn Diagrams
5. Using the
information presented on cards to create a spreadsheet (if all students are
asked to find the same information for their topic)
