Stella
Bizzio |
Stella
Bizzo teaches Fifth grade Ernest Gallet Elementary, Youngsville,
La. She received her B.S. and M.A. Elem. Ed. from Southeast
Missouri State University and has presented at NSTA conferences
in Boston, Philadelphia, New Orleans. Stella is a member
of the Region 4 Curriculum writing team in Math and Science.
She is a new teacher mentor and supervisor of teacher interns
for Ull. Stella was a 1999 Lafayette Education Foundation
Teacher of the Year Finalist. |

Durrett |
George
Durrett worked for 12 years in the oil industry as a draftsman
and cartographer. She has been teaching 12 years in her present
position as 6th grade inclusion teacher at Tchefuncte Middle
School. This is the third year that she has been affiliated
with LPB. Two years were spent working on Mythic Mirror with
the Edu-Connect Program. |

Faerber

David
Faerber, social studies teacher at Glen Oaks High School
in Baton Rouge, is completing his 22nd year as a Louisiana
teacher. He is currently the president of the Louisiana Council
for the Social Studies and an active member of the National
Council for the Social Studies. David works as a consultant
for the Louisiana Council for Economic Education and has
presented and attended economic workshops around the state
and country. He also served on the state social studies textbook
adoption committee in 1990 and worked with CSSAP as a participant
in the Portfolio Pilot Program. |

Colleen
Fiegel

Colleen
has been teaching honors biology at Ben Franklin High School
in New Orleans for the past 9 years. She previously taught
biology, environmental science, health, and remedial reading
at L.W.Higgins High School in Jefferson Parish. About
10 years ago I started to integrate technology into my biology
curriculum and have been an advocate ever since. My students
develop multimedia and research projects and now make use
of an extensive biology Web site. I enjoy learning and watching
others learn. As a result I have been active in professional
development not only as a participant but also as a presenter.
In sharing information learned from practical experience
I have learned much from the many people I have come in contact
with through the years. Colleen has been awarded the
Presidential Teaching Award in High School Science and the
Tandy Technology Scholar Award. |

Latrenda
Knighten

Latrenda
Knighten, currently the elementary education consultant
at LRCE (LA Resource Center for Educators), taught for
several years in East Baton Rouge parish and worked for
a while in the LA DoE. She finds her job to be very exciting...as
she gets to meet teachers from all over the state and share
teaching ideas. Latrenda calls her job the WOW - Workshop
on wheels! I travel all over the state and provide professional
development workshops to elementary teachers.
Besides
being an NTTI Master Teacher for several years she keeps
busy as President of LATM (Louisiana Association of Teachers
of Mathematics) and serving as one of the Key Leaders
for the Building a Presence for Science program. She
recently completed the TeacherLine Facilitator Training
and has presented her first TL Face to Face workshop
for Baton Rouge Points of Contact.

Jan
Mistich

Jan
is the Resource Helping Teacher at Tchefuncte Middle School
in Mandeville, LA. She has taught for 23 years at grades
K through 8. She served on the LaSIP Board in 1999. She worked
with her parish to develop the parish benchmarks in Science
and served on the state committee to review LEAP items for
science. She has worked on several projects for LPB such
as GIS and Other Planets, Other Moons. Jan is a Presidential
Awardee in Science. |

Katherine
Rayburn

Katherine
Rayburn has a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education
as well as a Masters Degree in Administration. While she
has been teaching for 11 years this is her third year in
the science lab at Broadmoor Elementary where Katherine
teaches all
strands of science to the 600+ students enrolled at her school. Her K-4
Labs are all correlated to the Louisiana Science Standards and Benchmarks.
Katherine
has what she calls a simple philosophy: "Success
begets success! ...given the opportunities, all children
can learn, succeed, and become scientifically literate.
By providing age appropriate, hands-on science activities
for our students, they ARE succeeding ...and having so
much fun in the process!"

Marie
Tizzard

Marie
Tizzard teaches biology and environmental science at Grace
King High School in Metairie. She is a facilitator for several
national and local environmental education programs such
as PLT and Project WILD. Marie serves as a Key Leader in
the NSTA/LSTA Building a Presence for Science Program and
is a member of the Governor's Environmental Education Commission.
Marie is a member of NSTA, NAAEE, LSTA, LESTA, and SAME and
is currently president of LEEA. Marie was a recipient of
the LSTA Outstanding High School Teacher Award in 2000. |

Andrea
Walker |
Andrea
Walker, a technology specialist in Orleans Parish, is the
Vice President of Louisiana Science Teachers Association
(LSTA). Andrea was selected as a participant in the NSTA
Web Watcher program during its first year and she has been
instrumental in the development of the LSTA and LESTA web
pages. Andrea is a recipient of the Presidential Award for
Science Teaching at the High School level, the Radio Shack
Technology Teaching Scholars Award, NAGT's Outstanding Earth
Science Teacher and LSTA's Outstanding High School Science
Teacher. She is a Key leader for the building a Presence
for Science Program and past president of the Louisiana Earth
Science Teachers Association. |

Dickinson |
Dot
Dickinson is a former middle school science teacher who joined
the LPB staff in 2001 as the Instructional Television Coordinator
and Program Specialist. She is active in Louisiana Science Teachers
Association and serves as the Region 2 Representative. She was
a State Finalist for PAEMST in Secondary Science in 2000. |

Nancy
Farley

Nancy
Farley is the Science Specialist at J. S. Clark Magnet School,
a Pre-K through 6th grade urban school in Monroe City. She has
been employed by the Monroe City School District for the past
11 years, the last 7 at J. S. Clark Magnet. Nancy has presented
workshops at local and state conferences. She has received numerous
grants from the Monroe City School Board, Jr. League of Monroe
and Chase Manhattan. She has also earned 24 hours of graduate
credit in the field of science which includes: DAMSALS, Data
Stream Project (American Meteorology Science) and InTech training.
Nancy has participated in Project WET, Project Learning Tree,
Project Wild, Project TELLUS, Wetland Workshop, Animal Tracks,
WOW! Wetland, Wonderland, Upland Workshop, Science is a Verb,
AIMS Science & Math, Science the Big Picture and the Big
Picture Science Assessment. She is also a National Science Faculty
Fellow. Nancy is a member of Louisiana Science Teachers Association
(LSTA) and National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). |

Joyce

Joyce
Tate is district Science Specialist in Monroe City Schools.
She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters degree from
Northeast Louisiana University, currently University of Louisiana
Monroe. She has 22 years teaching experience. Joyce is the recipient
of Excellence In Teaching Awards, Teacher of the Year recognition
and Outstanding Science Teacher of the Year honors. She has
also received local, state and national grant funding to design
and implement innovative teaching practices in science classrooms.
Joyce has participated in several LaSIP/Delta RSI projects.
She served as Master Teacher for the World Around Us Project
at ULM. She is a member of Louisiana Science Teachers Association
(LSTA), Louisiana Environmental Education Association, National
Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and Council for Elementary
Science International (CESI). As part of her involvement with
NSTA, she serves as Building A Presence for Science Key Leader
in Monroe City Schools. Her inservice training and workshop
presentations are extensive. She continues to provide local,
state and national professional development. In addition to
being active in science reform, Joyce is working to enhance
the utilization of technology in the elementary science classrooms. |
