Three 50-minute class periods.
This lesson allows younger elementary students to make observations
about shapes and one-, two-, and three-dimensional objects. Students
will work within a group to conduct observations to make predictions
regarding transformations of simple geometric shapes. Recognizing
shape transformations that occur in household items i.e. Jigsaw Puzzles,
and Quilts.
Mathematics
The learner will:
• Identify geometric shapes.
• Physically manipulate two and three dimensional objects.
• Perceive objects from a different perspective.
• Reinforce knowledge of relative positions (near, far, between).
• Mentally manipulate two and three-dimensional objects.
• Explore what happens to the size, shape, and position of an object after sliding,
flipping, turning, enlarging, or reducing it.
• Work cooperatively in a group to complete teacher directed activities.

Analyze characteristics and properties of two-and three-dimensional
geometric shapes and develop mathematical arguments about geometric
relationships. Specify locations and describe spatial relationships
using coordinate geometry and other representational systems,

situations. Use visualization, spatial reasoning and geometric
modeling to solve problems.
