1.Describe the appearance and odor of the river water sample.

2. Cap the bottle. Shake the water for one minute. Pour the water back and forth at least 10 times between the FS bottle (with cap in place) and the HT bottle, ending with the water in the HT bottle. Describe any changes in appearance or odor.

3. Measure 15 grams alum, pour it into the water and stir continuously for five minutes. Stop stirring and record the appearance of the water in the chart below. Keep the bottle absolutely still and record the appearance at 5 minute intervals for 15 minutes.
