Moon Scavenger Hunt Lesson Plan
Grade Level: K-4 grades
Curriculum Area: Language Arts
Lesson Objectives:
- ELA-4-E2 giving and following directions/procedures; (1, 4)
- ELA-4-E5 speaking and listening for a variety of audiences
(e.g., classroom, real-life, workplace) and purposes (e.g.,
awareness, concentration, enjoyment, information, problem
solving); (1, 2, 4, 5)
- ELA-4-E6 listening and responding to a wide variety of media
(e.g., music, TV, film, speech); (1, 3, 4, 5)
- ELA-5-E2 locating and evaluating information sources (e.g.,
print materials, databases, CD-ROM references, Internet information,
electronic reference works, community and government data,
television and radio resources, audio and visual materials);

- ELA-5-E4 using available technology to produce, revise, and
publish a variety of works; (1, 3, 4)
Technology Performance Indicators:
Use technology tools (e.g., publishing, multimedia tools,
and word processing software) for individual and for simple
collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities

Assessment: Space shuttle picture,
Scavenger hunt
Procedures:
- Using KidPix have students draw a picture of a space shuttle
going to the moon. (Sample)
- Under the picture describe what they think they would need
to survive.
- Print and display student work.
- The teacher will locate age-appropriate websites about
space. Write 10-12 questions to be answered from the website.

- Teacher gives students any background knowledge they need
to complete the Scavenger Hunt.
- Divide students into small groups and give each group
a copy of the Scavenger Hunt. (See an example)
- Have the groups of students complete the Scavenger Hunt.

- Optional: Have students write the amount of time it took
to complete the assignment. Give a prize (moon pies) to the group with
the most correct answers in the least amount of time.
- Assess student work with a rubric. (See
