Moon Festival Lesson Plan

Grade Level: K-4 grades

Curriculum Area: Language Arts and Art

Lesson Objectives:

  • ELA-4-E2 giving and following directions/procedures; 1, 4
  • ELA-4-E4 giving rehearsed and unrehearsed presentations; 1, 4
  • ELA-5-E4 using available technology to produce, revise, and publish a variety of works; 1, 3, 4
  • CE-1VA-E5 working individually and as a group member in a responsible and productive manner; 1, 5

Technology Performance Indicators: Use technology tools (e.g., publishing, multimedia tools, and word processing software) for individual and for simple collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities for a variety of audiences. (1,3)

Technology Connection: Internet and Card software (Microsoft Word would work)

Assessment: Participation and Invitations

Procedure:

  1. Using different Kids Search Engine, research moon celebrations and give a report about what was found on each Search Engine.
  2. Using the students' results and the Extra Activities sheet to plan the decorations for your party. Divide students into groups to make the decorations.
  3. Using the students' results and the suggestions given to plan the food. (Moon cakes - make or buy; grapes, melons, oranges, hard-boiled eggs, and other round food you can think of).
  4. Decide on a date and who to invite, and use the computer to create invitations.
  5. Have a good time at the party!!
  6. Create a rubric if you would like to assess student work. Don't forget to run the slide shows the students created!
