Turtle
Procedures:
- Before class make several transparencies of the turtle
and duplicate copies of the
turtle template.
- Read to the students the book Thirteen Moons on
Turtle's Back by Joseph Bruchac and Jonathan London
or tell the class the American Indian legend of the turtle
with 13 moons on its shell.
- Review with the students how we have 12 months in
our year.
- Divide the students into groups for this project.
- Have students plan before going to the computer how
they will depict the months of the year on the turtle's shell by giving each
group a copy of the turtle. (Share copies of the stamps from your KidPix User’s Guide.)
- Each group will draw the turtle in Kid Pix using
a transparency.
- Then each group will stamp 12 pictures into the turtle's
shell to depict the months of the year. The 13th spot will
be for their group name. (See
a sample)
- Let students print their turtle.
- Pupils use markers/crayons to finish the turtle
poster.
- Bind the posters into a class book. Let pupils read and
enjoy the book during the Moon Party.
- Assess student work using a rubric. (See
a sample)
