Thanks to everyone who has joined LPB during the membership campaign. I have a few observations about some of the shows during the drive.
The winner of “The Keith Richards I can’t believe he’s still alive category†is Jerry Lee Lewis who has not only outlived the rest of the Million Dollar Quartet (Elvis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins) but he has attracted half of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to do duets with him along with Norah Jones and Willie Nelson.
Do you realize that the British Invasion of the 1960s occurred 43 years ago? That’s what made the appearances by Lulu, Petula Clark, Billy J. Kramer, Peter and Gordon, Eric Burden and the Animals on My Music: The British Beat so fun. I guess Freddie and the Dreamers were booked that week. Those of us who remember the Beatles and the Stones on Ed Sullivan, Shindig and Hullabaloo have good memories about this era.

The last couple of weeks have been surreal as Hollywood stars have been showing up at LPB. Former CHIPS star Erik Estrada is hosting a new show called Situation Disaster! that tells people how to prepare for hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc. He is doing the intros and narration in both Spanish and English so it can be used in the Hispanic community. I told a number of people that we were going to do a Masterpiece Theatre production of CHIPs and some people actually believed it.
John Goodman of Roseanne fame is hosting a new documentary called Surviving the Storm about the Oschner Foundation Hospital’s efforts to remain operating during and after Katrina. John actually lives in New Orleans now since he married his wife Annabeth, who is from Bogalusa, and has done spots for the State Department of Tourism. Besides Roseanne, John has appeared in many of the movies produced and directed by the Joel and Ethan Coen including Raising Arizona, O Brother Where Art Thou, Barton Fink and the Hudsucker Proxy. We’re happy he could help us out on this project.

For folks who have suggestions for future topics, please title your post “Topic Idea.” That will help us sort through things more easily.
